Lincoln LSST

Post by wheretogo »

We received the results from LSST, indicating DS met the minimum standard. But how confidence can we be if we put LSST as our first choice?

Anyone can shed any light? the deadline is looming.

Look at the admissions policy. It is one of the hardest schools to predict if you will get a place! Are you in one of the schools which is allocated places? Do you know how many others in your child's class are likely to be applying and whether they already have siblings in the school? It is useful to have passed the test if you may not get a place either because your child is not in one of the schools allocated places or if there will be more applying from your school than places available. They certainly used to allocate the aptitude places after the others in the past - i am not sure if this still applies. A lot of people get in through appeal so it is always worth applying and placing the school first if you really want a place.

Alex, thanks for your reply. Our situation is a bit complicated. We are not in the Lincolnshire county ATM, but plan to move to. We sat Ds for 11plus exam and LSST aptitude test. We are confident he will get a place in King's school Grantham with his score and no catchment requirement. however, my husband is working in Lincoln city. It would be convenient for both of them if get into LSST. It looks more like gambling now if we put LSST first. If no offer from lsst, we will loss the opportunity to the grammar schools as well as they all oversubscripted.

Tried to call LSST a couple of times last week, nothing more than what said in the letter.

Still thinking

If you put LSST first and do not get a place then you second choice becomes your first choice, and if you are eligible for Kings you would still get a place there

Just to reiterate what Herman has already said. You will not lose a place at any other school on your list if your first choice cannot allocate you a place.
All of the schools on your list are sent the relevant details of all the people who have applied. They rank them according to their admissions policy. They do not know what other schools you have applied for or where they are on your list. Only the Local Authority know this - they allocate the school which is highest on your list which is able to offer you a place. If your first choice can offer, you get your first choice; if your first choice cannot offer but second choice can you get your second choice and if neither first or second choices can offer you get your third assuming they can offer. So you should always place the schools in your genuine order of preference.

If there is anything you are unsure about please ask again. It is very sad when people don't get the school they want because of not understanding how the system works and putting something different from what they really want on the form.

If you are planning to live in Lincoln itself Grantham would be a difficult journey as the transport links are not good. You would probably have to live somewhere between the two places to make it feasible.

Thanks to Alex and hermanmunster. I am glad that I have asked.

We plan to move to the place near DS's school, whatever LSST or Grantham. In the later scenario, husband has to commute every day which he does not mind as long as the school is the right one for DS. DS is a very capable kid (proud mum), in your opinion, do you think Grantham would better suit him than LSST?

How about bus routes from Newark or east of Nottingham to Grantham, it is plausible for a kid to travel everyday? Sorry I have asked so many questions, if decision made we have to stay put for 7 years. I want to gather all the Pros and Cons for DS to make a choice.

Lots of children travel in to the Grantham schools from around Newark and also from the small towns and villages to the east of Nottingham. Two X6 buses start from Radcliffe on Trent and East Bridgford and then call at places such as Bingham, Aslockton, Orston, Bottesford and Barrowby. Binghmam to the centre of Lincoln is about 45 minutes when the traffic is favourable as it is on the A46 but could be a lot more during rush hour traffic. Newark is a lot closer and the travel time in favourable traffic is around half an hour. You could look at places such as North and South Muskham or Claypole.

Thanks to all of you.

Decision can be made so simply, LSST is not on the school list in our county's online system. No more pondering.

Lincolnshire here we come.

Correct name is
The Priory Academy LSST
The school number is: 9255408

You can apply for any school from anywhere - it does not have to be on your LA's list.

The school numbers are published alongside the schools in the Lincolnshire booklet "Going to Secondary School in Lincolnshire 2016", link on this page:
