Thorpe House School in GX???

Post by Bucksfizz »

Hi There. New to this forum.
We have moved to Gerrards Cross with the intention to send our son to one of the grammars in the area.
We need to move him to a junior school in the area in september 2016, into Year 4.
We liked the look of Thorpe House, but was wondering if anyone has any experience of boys attending the school?
And if the school preps well for the 11plus test?
Any advice and info would be really appreciated.

Go to the Primary school in GX - it's outstanding! I believe the Head is highly regarded.

As a Bucks "Partner School" (one that administers the test on its own premises), the school signs a declaration to say that they don't undertake direct tutoring for the 11+. Almost all of the pupils will be tutored privately outside of school though.

Last year 15 children at the school took the test and 11 qualified. I think there may have been up to 5 pupils who didn't take the test, i.e. a full class size of 20. The figures are similar for previous years, on a par with other private schools in Bucks.

No further insights to offer, apart from the fact that I've never heard anything bad about the school.

What would your plan be if your child didn't pass the 11 plus? It does happen :) (I presume you are in catchment for Chalfont Community College, which is well thought of). Yes, the local primary schools are very good.

Thank you for the feedback.
Yes, we are considering the state school in GX, but are on a waiting list, and a fair way down on the list.
School have said the movement on the list tends to be slow and we could be waiting a while.
Also, my son can be lost in a class of 30!! Rather easily led but quite able.
Therefore were looking at Thorpe House.

If there are any parent's of boys who attend the school, their views would be really appreciated.

Thanks again

You could appeal for a place at the Primary? If you have moved then that could be an idea.

Read the ofsted report - there are no behaviour issues at the school.

Not Pass the 11plus???!!!! NEVER!!! lol Just kidding!
Yes, Chalfont community college would be our back up.
Of the opinion that pass or fail, the knowledge picked up during the 11plus process would be invaluable.

In Bucks we don't pass/fail the Transfer Test (not 11+) - we qualify for a GS or qualify for an Upper ...

Hi - have you visited Gayhurst School? Also a great choice in Gerrards Cross.

Yes went to see Gayhurst. Nice school however, liked the feel of Thorpe House and DS preferred Thorpe House.
