Guitar strings for beginner

DD has asked for a guitar for Xmas and we have got her a second hand one but I thought new strings would be a good idea. A quick look at A**zon tells me that I don't know what I am looking for. This is to play for fun - there won't be formal lessons as she already does piano and sax - just teaching herself to play along with youtube etc which she has already been doing a fair bit of with her ukulele.
Any suggestions?

Go to Dawson's. They were helpful to DD. She bought one from them in July. Doing much the same, teaching herself after learning ukulele and piano.

I wouldn't be so sure.

Actually be thankful you only get one ukulele, DD has two friends around regularly and all three play them together. Thankfully usually when I'm not in.

Since I'm home now, I've looked at her guitar and it has metal strings.
