Is boarding in Reading School good value for money?

Dear all

Me again. As said in other thread, my son scored 121.02 but live outside of the catchment. As the information I have gathered so far, boarding is the only way for my son to go to Reading School. I am tempted but obviously it is a very big amount (10,758 boarding fee per year).

I would very much like to have your opinions on whether it is worth，especially from the parents who have boarding DS currently.

Only comment will be that in your situation, "value for money" for boarding is perhaps not the correct question to ask... What you will be paying for is really not boarding, it is to attend the school. So you've got to be clear the education is worth it and the boarding is just the cherry on top!

How would your son feel about boarding during the week? £10k boarding fees compares pretty well against Indie fees if that is your alternative.
My DD would not have been up for boarding (was never a plan for us) but her best friend is boarding now and really enjoying it as her parents are overseas.

The school itself is great so if your son has a channce to be a boarder

Yes I would tend to agree with kol on this, my boys think that boarding is great, they have quite a few friends in boarding and I see that the boarders are involved in so many evening activities. Moreover they are away from home only 5 nights, Mondays to Thursdays, they are back home on Friday evening and go back on Sunday night I believe.

And if you don't want to send your son to a comprehensive school or not so good grammar school, then the other alternative is private school which is usually around £18K plus every year. So that way Reading School boarding option is much cheaper.
