Vocab online practice

Post by ronkevso »

Can anyone recommend good online vocab sites for a year 3 ds? Or any good strategies for building vocab.
Many thanks

Problem with online is often a child might recognise a word but doesn't know the meaning or context. Good old fashioned reading with marking words they don't recognise and asking you questions is good. I would also just in every day life use extended vocabulary and DD picked it up. If she used a bland word I would ask for synonyms or antonymns. I didn't do anything consciously towards 11+ until DD was at start of Y5, except for book open days so she could attend and feel inspired. DD developed a love of English at an early age, I don't think she would have done if it had been a computer programme, but appreciate each child is different.

Thanks so much Pettswood. I really like the idea of highlighting unknown words in a book. I will definitely try that. DD loves reading so I will continue to encourage her to read a range of books regularly. .

Thanks so much for the advice
