St. Albans high school for girls vs Channing

Post by VGS »

Hi, my DD has offers from Channing and STAHS and we live in north london, close to the coach stop. I believe academically they are similar but just wanted to check if anyone has experience of these 2 schools. Thanks

I read this post and appears to point to Channing as closer to north London. The posts were few years back so if any recent views, much appreciated. I do like the head of Channing.

Hi VGS, we are in same boat at the moment. I like both the schools. dd & dh both prefer St Albans over Channing. Did a trial run over weekend. Its not too bad without traffic to St albans. But the coach is a killer journey. Nearly an hour and so not sure.

The posts are not a few years back, they were just last week. I think St Albans is stronger academically but not enough to justify a longer journey ten times a week for seven years. DG

Kmc, my dd is at wheathempstead currently but it is a long journey by car and coach and makes socialising with her friends hard. But she is happy at school. We are now thinking of senior school with more homework and to instill more independence, channing as a possible option.

KMC, how long would your journey be to Channing?

I think the journey to Channing will be approx 30mins. It just feels more accessible as we are north london based but hard decision between the 2 schools.

Double the journey. I think that is an easy decision. Would you take a job that was double the commute?

She will want more local friends as she gets older and will want to be able to get to see them at weekends. DG
