Teacher training GCSEs requirements- French equivalent?
Does anyone know if the French baccalaureate with strong maths component would be equivalent to Maths GCSE for the purpose of Teacher training? For English, I guess the Cambridge Proficiency and old ELIC would do. I can't find the answer anywhere, only being referred to NARIC which charges almost £90 to tell me... But no point paying if it is not going to be accepted.
Re: Teacher training GCSEs requirements- French equivalent?
It used to be the case that people without Maths GCSE had to take some kind of test before being accepted onto an ITT course. In fact a friend of mine who had an O level had to do it (she also had an Oxford degree, but in an Arts subject). So I think that the answer might be that if a qualification isn't on the list, there is probably a test you can take instead.
But actually the future is looking rosy for unqualified teachers once all schools become academies, so maybe all a moot point anyway.

Re: Teacher training GCSEs requirements- French equivalent?
Thanks Amber, I know some providers have their own tests but all this comes at a cost. I am not sure I want to pay for NARIC and then for more tests or GCSEs.
Re: Teacher training GCSEs requirements- French equivalent?
Maybe you could ring or email an ITT establishment and ask them. Persevere though, I was initially told that my Chemistry with Management Science ( basically science and maths) degree was not relevant to primary teaching.
Re: Teacher training GCSEs requirements- French equivalent?
Everyone has to do skills tests before they start the PGCE.
Re: Teacher training GCSEs requirements- French equivalent?
Thank you. Yes I know there is also a skills test in English and Maths so why asking for GCSEs as well? That is not even to teach English or Maths and I do have UK under- and postgraduate degrees.
Re: Teacher training GCSEs requirements- French equivalent?
You will have to complete NARIC before you undertake any form of ITE.
When I lived in France I took GCSE classes for Brits who planned to be uk based in the future.
Contact your nearest ITE institution and they will help you.
I have PMd you too.

Thanks Moved.
I have not received your PM

Don't worry about the PM, this is more useful. I did a quick Google search for ITT qualifications. I thought it was interesting that maths A level cannot replace a GCSE but the Bac can.
English and maths
European baccalaureate:
• A score of 6/10 or higher is acceptable in place of GCSE grade C (according to
equivalence sheet).
A score of 7/10 is needed for science

Re: Teacher training GCSEs requirements- French equivalent?
Thank you again Moved.
I had come across this as well, but no specific mention of the French bac.
I am waiting for info from my preferred ITT.
