Year 7 Language Exam Revision Advice

Post by BucksBornNBred »

I am just wondering if anyone has any advice on (as the title says) Year 7 Exam revision advice.

DS has not (in my opinion - though it is early days and I can see improvements) made a good start in his exercise book, so I am not sure it is good enough to revise from.

I also don't think his text books are any help for revision (few translations and lots of pictures which really doesn't work for him).

Are there any resources on line that might help with (French, Spanish, German) revision? Old fashioned direct translations and not just online quizzes?

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Have a look at Yabla on https://french.yabla.com/flashcards.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

They do French, Spanish, German, Italian and Mandarin Chinese.

Generally, it is a subscription site, but there are quite a few things that are accessible for free, including videos, vocab exercises etc. DS used it for Spanish and found it helpful.

Does your DS's school subscribe to any on-line language learning systems? If they do, your son may be able to sign in at home. Our school uses 'Vocab Express' and boys can access it from home using their school login details.

I found some free Japanese lessons on line the other day quite by chance, there may be something similar for European languages. Also, perhaps it's worth emailing the teachers with a question about free online resources they could recommend.

Thanks Purpleduck, but that site also seems mainly online and I was just looking for a printable vocab with translations. The school do recommend a website but, again, it is just tests on screen. All that is well and good for a lot of children, but DS doesn't really warm to that kind of learning so I was looking for old fashioned texts (online though as all the old physical books seem to have been sold/destroyed/burned and I only have so much time to find them!). I can find a few pages that I might be able to print but I was hoping there was a fantastic "go-to" website out there :?

I see. I note your preference for online printables, but if those are not readily available, there are some cheap (under £3) workbooks from WH Smith - they are rated 9+, but might be suitable for practice if your son has just started learning:

http://www.whsmith.co.uk/products/help- ... 1849589031" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.whsmith.co.uk/products/help- ... 1849589048" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

We also used CGP Spanish KS3 workbook (answers included), which I thought was pretty good:
http://www.whsmith.co.uk/products/ks3-s ... 1847628879" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And there is one for French:
http://www.whsmith.co.uk/products/ks3-f ... 1841468396" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Finally, you might find some printable resources on TES website

https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/ ... nish%22%5D" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If I come across a website with languages printables, I'l let you know. :)

Would this be any good? They seem to have loads of free worksheets for various languages:

Thanks again ... will go through the links and hopefully find something good! First one wasn't much use as it was (again!) a quiz but will see what the others are like. Thanks so much for the help - I don't think I had come up with these links :-)
