wallington Girls - languages as extra - curricular

Post by zeinab »

I know that as well as engineering, languages is also a specialism at Wallington. Can anyone whose DD attends, tell me if they offer Mandarin classes or any other language classes as an extra-curricular ?

This is from the 'Curriculum' tab on their website:

At Key Stage 4 all of our students follow an academic programme of 11 GCSEs with the English Baccalaureate at its heart.   3 separate sciences are taught to every student, there is the choice of 3 modern languages, 5 technologies and all girls follow a GCSE course for Religious Studies that also delivers philosophy and independence of thought.  There is a further choice from eight other GCSEs including, amongst others, Computer Science, Art, Music and Drama.  Latin and Photography are also offered in twilight lessons after school.

Searching on 'Mandarin' produced no responses, but it could be one of the unnamed 'MFL'? The languages offered at A level seem to be French, German and Spanish, though.

I believe that only at GSCE do they offer Latin and Japanese that are lessons after school, but not exactly extra-curricular (more like an extra course).

Often referred to as 'Twilight' classes, possibly to encourage teenage girls to take them
