CGS Capacity

Post by bgh »

Hi there,
Could anyone give me some information about CGS in terms of their buildings. Didn't they open a new 6th form wing in 2014? Would that have added any capacity to their buildings/accommodation?
Thanks!

The last copy of the Net Capacity Assessment that I have on file is dated May 2014, and I'm as sure as I can be that it includes the new 6th form centre. The NC is shown as being 1194, whereas back in ca. 2010 it was 1138.

The school has a very enclosed site with no room for further expansion.

Thank you both very much for replying.

Sally-Anne, is the historical Net Capacity Assessment available anywhere online or does that come from your personal notes? also, can I find (or do you have) the total number of pupils on the roll for the last few years, including going back to when the Net Capacity Assessment was lower?

The NCA comes from my personal notes.

I do have the NOR going back quite a long way, but it would take me an age to compile them all, especially broken down by year group. I'll see if I can do a quick comparison for you, but to be honest, I don't think it will help your case. The school has become more crowded every year, and the small amount of additional space created by the 6th form centre won't have made a significant difference.

Thanks again Sally-Anne. I do see that it's a difficult argument, just trying to look at all the possible angles.
Any other thoughts on an appeal for CGS, for the first hearing?

If you do have the total NOR for say 2014, 2013 or so, i would be very grateful.

Jan 2016 1272
Jan 2015 1234
Jan 2014 1215
Jan 2013 1185

Does that help?

Actually, I spoke too soon.

I've compared the school's expected NOR for 2010 (this was for 12+ appeals) with the actual pupil numbers on roll as of January 2016. You will have the expected NOR for 2016 in your documentation, of course, but they will be pretty similar.

2010 (Expected NOR for September as at approx. May 2010)
Y7 - Y11: 859 pupils
6th form: 462 pupils
Total: 1321
NCA: 1138
= 183 pupils over NCA

2016 (Actual NOR in January)
Y7 - Y11: 875 pupils
6th form: 397 pupils
Total: 1272
NCA: 1194
= 78 pupils over NCA

The main school is marginally more crowded, but the drop in the numbers in the 6th form means that the site overall is quite bit less crowded than it was 6 years ago.

That said, as G55 rightly points out, it is still a very cramped site.

(Cross-posts with both of you.)
