The Lottery Scheme

Post by desibhai »

Hello,

We live in B'ham and I want my son to attend a School in Solihull, say for example Tudor Grange. Will we be eligeble or is the proposed scheme within the boundaries of each LEA, ie you have to live in solihull but outside in the catchment of the school of your choice.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I hadn't heard that there was to be a lottery in Solihull. UNless I'm very much mistaken the new law doesn't require LEAs to use lotteries, just allows them to make it one of their criteria. I believe Tudor Grange admissions are currently based on catchment area, with distance one of the later criteria if not oversubscribed from within catchment: this booklet

http://www.solihull.gov.uk/Attachments/ ... cation.pdf

explains in more detail the process for Sept 2008 and has (on p 47) numbers admitted via the various criteria in 2006 - the furthest out-of-catchment child admitted was just over a mile away....

However if it does all change I'm sure it will be controversial and we will hear about it
