GCSEs over - what now for the long summer

Okay ds1 finished his GCSEs a few weeks ago and bought himself a new ps4 which seems to keep him occupied for most of the day and night !! He then wakes up late the next day at 11 or 12??? How do I keep him occupied during the summer ? It feels like this is going to be a very very long break ! He has applied for a few summer jobs but no interviews yet . He is not keen on NCS .

A project around the house? Voluntary work?

Volunteering?

Charity shops are always looking for people. Other ideas would be to help with holiday club or visiting old people.

There's always reading or prep for A levels e.g. downloading the spec and I'm sure teachers would suggest suitable books. Many schools set prep work which they have to hand in during the first lesson.

Learning to cook cheap meals?

Agree with him
how much time is going to be his to do as he pleases eg 1 morning a week when he can get up as late as he likes, hours on ps4;
how much on constructive chill out eg hobbies, music , sports, walking, gardening, reading, model making, cooking
How much on 'academic'-specific A level prep or a project, reading around the subject ready for Uni applications
How much on employment - paid or voluntary ( which will also start building up a CV for future employment).

Hopefully! after the initial negotiating you won't have to keep nagging every day.

Body clocks do adjust so keeping to within a couple of hours of school getting up time and then getting back to routine a couple of weeks before school has been our aim.

Exercise, fresh air and healthy eating are old fashioned goals but still a useful prep for the stresses of A levels IMO

Good ideas Guest55 and KB, like your ds Lefol, my ds not keen on ncs Asked at all the local shops near to us, walking distance so he could walk into work and back home as I'm at work but no success, all taken up by students who have already been working the odd day and now summer hols so working extra days!! My ds already voluntarily helps out every Saturday in a charity shop but has now decided to voluntarily work an extra 2 days during the week, just to get him out the house, that and biking and meeting his friends to get the fresh air (I'm obsessed with this)and before I forget, his A Level prep work!! Hopefully wont be too long a summer break

My DD will be volunteering at the local library over the summer to help with the 'big read' reading challenge (or whatever it is called this year).
