September 2016 Exam sitting

Post by mumof3ds »

I have just registered my son to sit the exam at Kegs and was most surprised that the main sitting on the 17th is already full ?! He will therefore have to take it on the 27th. Has this ever happened before? Does this mean there are unprecedented numbers taking it this year? Not rating his chances of that the case!

It certainly happened last year at several centres and there was lots of speculation that the cut off scores would be significantly higher, this however did not turn out to be the case. Unfortunately 11 plus tourism (making poor DC sit multiple 11 plus exams) seems to be continuing to increase. This puts pressure on the test centres but does not necessarily lead to more applications as parents choose where to apply once the results are in.

The number sitting the exam had been pretty stable at around 4000 for a few years. I don't know whether significantly more sat it last year, or whether the more popular schools put a (lower) limit on the number that they would allow? The previous year there were about 780 at each of the Westcliff schools, I think. Also for the past couple of years CCHS has been out of the Consortium and this year, Cecil Jones has left and so is no longer available as a venue either.

Thanks for your replies. I feel reassured that hopefully the competition won't be significantly greater than for his two brothers who sat it in 2011 & 2013. I'm also hoping that any increase in applicants are fighting for the out of catchment places!

Silly question but assume the paper is the same for both dates? One could speculate that some content of the papers could be socialised from the 1st sitting for the benefit of the 2nd, recalling the text of the English paper for example.

Just wondering... will the candidates taking csse on on the 27th get the same paper as the 17th?

Not unless they decide to change the set-up for this year, no.

Incidentally, have they said how they will deal with those who would have registered for the main date, but who can't because the venues are full, should they be unwell on the day? In the normal course of events, they would have the opportunity to take the exam on the reserve date, but the 'late' sitting if there is one, is usually after national allocations day.
