Marling 2014 email

In recent years most students that qualified and placed Marling School as a preference were allocated a place by the Local Authority, up to and including

the 282nd student in 2012
the 305th student in 2013
the 291st student for our current Year 7s.

There are approximately 400 places for boys in the Gloucestershire Grammar Schools and 970 boys sat the test in Gloucestershire. A total of 514 boys registered to share their results with Marling School and these form our overall cohort for consideration.

Dont forget PAN's have increased over the years which will affect qualifying/allocated ranks. If memory serves me correct Pates, Marling and SHS have all increased by 30 places, HSFG 8 places, STR 12 places and Ribston 6 places.

One post on here stated Marling ranked 77 boys who did not receive a place on first allocation. Ribston ranked 500 girls and did not offer all of them laces either.

Achieving a rank up to 400 "should" be safe in obtaining a place at a Grammar - but unfortunately you cannot predict which Grammar, unless you are ranked within PAN. Pates normally are boy-heavy, but that can change :!:

The Crypt web site says 'The School Governor’s plan to consult in November 2016 over whether to increase the School’s Planned Admission Number (PAN) from its current 112, to 140 or 150. By increasing the PAN to 140 or 150 for September 2018 entry, places for boys would therefore be preserved. Currently, more boys than girls attend selective schools in Gloucestershire and that is also the case for those attending co-educational selective schools. Ultimately, the balance between girls and boys attending grammar schools in Gloucestershire is subject to parental choice and the balance of girls and boys who meet the qualifying standard on the entry test for each school.'

I don't know the PAN, it should be on their admission policy. I believe they took approx 140 this September, 5 classes of 28. However, I know that some are appeals, as I understood it they initially gave out 4 classes, then during the appeal group hearing said they would consider adding another class if during the appeals process they find enough boys of the academic standard.
