Kent Results / Appeal

Post by JIT »

Hi All
Congrats to all of those who kids have passed the Kent.

Unfortunately for us our DD failed English by 1 mark and hence not suitable for grammar.

Overall she has achieved 345. Our elder daughter is already going to Kent Grammar.

“Your child may still have a grammar assessment with lower scores than this if their case was referred to the local Head Teacher Assessment Panel by the primary school.”

What does above mean ? What should we do ? We are lost , can anyone help ?

Thanks very much in advance

sorry to hear your news.

think that comment means they may have been deemed acceptable - if the headteacher has already appealed on their behalf.

if your dc has been deemed not suitable then either the headteacher didn't appeal or they did and it wasn't successful. Neither scenario prevents you from appealing if you have strong evidence of academic ability

We are in a similar position, with our DD getting a near identical score and falling short by 3 on maths.

AIUI, the headteacher appeals are all completed and if successful you would have had an email to indicate this. So it comes down to parent appeals. Yours is so very close that it would be hard to imagine why it wouldn't be successful... not that I have any experience in this!

Thanks Guys for replies.
So does that means that the Headteacher got the results way in advance and they didn't bothered to ask us ?
or they still have a time to appeal ?

Or its all upto the parents appeal now ?

Also does anyone have any links to kent appeal process ?

that would be a big help.

Best Regards

That's rotten to be so close and not get a pass. The Head Teacher appeals is really odd, lots of schools don't used it at all. It makes it a bit of a lottery.

I think an appeal is worth a go if the other schools near you are not so good. My daughter was close but the head didn't use the appeal claiming her handwriting was too messy. It felt quite unfair. Her writing is now fine and has nothing to do with ability!

The headteacher gets the results a good couple of weeks before they are published. It is then up to them to appeal if they feel the result doesn't truly reflect the capability of the child. The headteacher wouldn't discuss this with the parents and the first you would know about it would be when you received your results. If you child had scored under the cut off point for one of the subjects but had still been deemed 'suitable for grammar' in the correspondence you received this would indicate that the headteacher had successfully appealed prior to the results being disclosed. If your child was below by one point only in one subject the headteacher should have appealed. You should have a word with him/her to find out why they didn't. Good luck!
