BVGS Vs KEA Vs HGS

Post by cactus »

Hello All,

My DS scored 221 in B'ham exam (Non-PP) lives in Solihull. Please share your thoughts /suggestions on below..

What is the likelihood of him getting into KEA / BVGS with this score ?

# BVGS Vs KEA Vs HGS --> which is the best school? Pro’s & Con’s please?
# We have a green bus route from Solihull to KEA . Don't know about transportation to HGS.
# Not sure how to commute to such a long distance..from Solihull to BVGS ? Does anyone know, anybody commuting daily to BVGS from solihull? Is it through public transportation or private vehicle arranged by group of parents?

Thanks in advance :)

Though we like KEFW. We think, with his score (221) it would be unrealistic to think about KEFW / opting in CAF. Please correct me.

We visited KEA,BVGS & HGS also. We are very much interested & inclined towards KEA & BVGS.

Got green bus route to KEA (1+ hour journey), so no problem. Also, managed to find the public transport route (train & bus routes) to BVGS, which is a reasonable 1+ hour journey.
My DS is happy to travel that extent of journey daily.. So, distance / transport /time of travel is not a concern.

Now, we are in a confusion state. Can't able to decide which school (KEA or BVGS) should we opt as first priority in CAF :(

Some one, please shed some light and share their opinions. Which may help us while updating the schools priority list in CAF.

Thanks very much :)

I don't know how many preferences Solihull MBC allows you to express (Birmingham grants six), but if you have enough to include KEFW, and would prefer your son to go there if possible, then put it on the form ahead of BVGS, KEA and HGS. If he gets in, great. If his score turns out to be too low, then he will be put on the waiting list for KEFW and the LEA will consider your second choice, be that KEA or BVGS or HGS (and third choice if you don't qulaify for the second, and so on).

Hopefully you are not in the same boat we were in here in Worcestershire. WCC only allows parents a choice of THREE schools. We were put in the position of having to choose to gamble, by putting a grammar school we really wanted for our son (but which he probably wouldn't get into) as our first choice, or to leave that one out (and forego any chance of a place) in order to free up space on the form for another grammar that we favoured much less. It was an agonising decision.

Hi cactus

No chance with kefw so let's forget that!!

You need to put bvgs & kea first & second choice which ever way best suits you & your DS!!!

Third would be hgs on the caf!!!

If you do not get your first or second choices you will have a back up in hgs which is guaranteed!!!

Then you will be on the waiting list for both your first & second choices!!! With a good chance of getting in one of your choices!!!

If you put kefw as one of your first choices you can only go on waiting list for 2 schools!!! so you would have 2 choose between bvgs & kea!!! So cutting down on your chances of getting in!!!

You have a good chance of bvgs & kea so they need to be 1st & 2nd on your caf with hgs 3rd!!!

I hope this helps mate!!!
