recommended reading for 7 year old

Post by SleepyHead »

Hello

DS has read Horrid Henry (repeatedly), Diary of a Wimpy kid (loved it) , Beast Quest (though he found this a bit monotonous)

Any recommendations for this age group, would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Have a go at Just William and some of the shorter MM books like Why the Whales came. Some R Dahl like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Matilda.

You might have to read some of them with him to get him started but Just William really really appeals to some (including me, I love it) DG

Thanks DaoGroupie, DS has read a lot of RD already
Really like the idea of Just William, though we will definitely have to start that together as it's just a touch too hard for him.

If he likes Horrid Henry he will love Just William. We listened to the audio of the one where William gets stuck on the bike and I almost had to stop the car we were laughing so much. DG

Has he read any Jeremy Strong books? They are good at this sort of age.
Some Enid Blyton books appeal to boys and girls - the Famous Five series is quite accessible at this age.

DD loved the Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osbourne around 6-7 years, she read and reread them. I quite liked them too! Waiting to take it out for DS in about a year's time.

Mr Gum books by Andy Stanton are brilliant. They remind me of Monty Python for kids.... My lot loved them, and the audio books are hysterical!

Mine loved A Series of Unfortunate Events at that age. In fact, they were what really got them reading independently.
