STEM league tables
The first ever STEM league tables have been published by Your Life.
"Your Life has published a new school ranking based on STEM subject performance and ability to deliver skills for the jobs of today and the future. Several schools have climbed more than 1,000 places in new STEM rankings, while Eton and Harrow drop out of the top 100. In some instances poorly performing schools according to Ofsted have a higher than average STEM ranking. On the back of findings, Your Life Chair Edwina Dunn, has called for an ‘urgent rethink’ of the way schools are assessed." - Source - Your Life

Re: STEM league tables
Very proud of how well our school did - 16th out of state schools and 33rd overall. A far better league table, in my opinion.
I saw that Tim Peake had tweeted recently when asked how to get into becoming an astronaut that STEM subejects and languages were really important....If you haven't heard of the #SaveOurSixthFormers campaign, it is well worth a look. Heads are trying to get fair funding to allow them to run all the A levels so that we don't lose Sciences, MFL, Drama etc

Interesting reading. Surprised to see Habs Girls so low down.

Re: STEM league tables
Interesting piece of information the STEM tables.
Re: STEM league tables
It's unfortunate about Habs Girls but good to see that the top slots aren't entirely for the lads. TGS and HBS are in the top 20, with Kendrick and NLCSchasing hard on their heels. It's particularly pleasing that most of these girls schools, expect TGS, improve their ranking when considered from STEM performance rather than just A level results.

Re: STEM league tables
Another league table we simply don't need..
A focus on STEM is admirable particularly for girls schools which tend to be under-represented. But what about the humanities, art, music? I speak as someone who has had a lifelong career in a STEM field.
Madness.. Let children be what they want to be..

Re: STEM league tables
This could be a useful perspective on data as girls in particular may benefit from tapping into the opportunities afforded by STEM subjects and parents may get some idea of a school's support for this. Similarly for children at mixed ability, non-selective schools.
A table based on uptake of arts or humanities could be equally interesting.

Re: STEM league tables
Very interesting. Thanks test1. Pleased to see Hertfordshire schools like Watford boys and Parmiters in top 100.
Re: STEM league tables
The schools which offer wider choice of subjects will have fewer percentage of grades in STEM subjects. Even if all students achieve A* in all subjects, they will still be lower in ranking. Conversely, if a school only offers STEM subjects but all their students get a B in these subjects, they are assuredly top of the list.Your Life: The rankings are based on the proportion of all A Level grades achieved which are grades A*-B in STEM subjects.
Clearly "Your life" has a narrow view of what must be taught in schools. By name dropping "Brexit" they're merely trying to create an interest in their own version of league tables rather than offer any specific insight.
Re: STEM league tables
From the list, I get an impression that elite(!) girls' schools have dropped lot more in rankings than boys'. Could it be a measure of lower interest among girls for STEM subjects? If so, it is another reason to discount this league table.
