Stats please: How many sat SET second stage/ how many pass

Post by cheerio1357 »

Hi,
Really sorry if there is a separate thread on this but grateful for any help with this. Any idea how many DS's sat the SET second stage yesterday and how many will "pass" the second stage so they can list on the CAF?
Thanks in advance!

stats for Sutton Schools and SGS for entry in 2017:

2439 boys took the selective eligibility test or entry to any of the selective boys’ schools in Sutton in September 2017.

917 boys took the second stage test for admission to Sutton Grammar School for the 135 available places for entry in
September 2016.

746 of the boys tested were deemed to be of selective ability and of these a valid application via the
Common Application Form was received from 645 of them.

Ten appeals against non-admission (all for year 7 entry) were lodged with the Admissions Appeals Committee. Three
were upheld.

Thank you so much, bugsbunny. Grateful to have a response when it is a busy time for everyone.
One more question , if I may, please: do they give out the marks when they email parents about second stage regardless of whether the child has made it to the CAF or not?

The boys schools don't give out marks for children who have passed - they do give you the mark if you haven't passed.

Last year the girls schools did give the mark to all the girls but I don't know whether they plan to do the same this year.

Curious to know if we have similar stats for NonSuch / Wallington girls that sat for entry in 2017 - how many of them?

Should point out however, that a majority of the boys who took the second stage test for admission to Sutton Grammar School most likely also applied for Wallington County Grammar School and Wilson's School, with 150 and 180 spaces respectively, so the percentage of boys who would have been offered a place at at least one of the local Grammar Schools is higher than this figure might imply.

Yes - and some might also have applied for Tiffin or St Olaves as well as independent schools. There will always be some boys who pass the Sutton exams but aren't offered a place, but my impression is that most who pass will get a place if they want one.

not really true... that they can get a place if they want one. these schools are oversubscribed in any year. other do take the exams in prep for the independent schools in Jan
