Progress 8 and Attainment 8 scores 2017

Post by quasimodo »

I have stolen the idea for this from Petswood Fiona in the Bromley section. For those trying to decide schools, the best fit for your child is always the most important factor, but if you are struggling then the Progress 8 and Attainment 8 scores may be helpful to you. The scores for 2017 have been added to the compare tool today. I include the scores for the Birmingham/Sutton Coldfield Consortium and Walsall,Wrekin and Wolverhampron Consortiumof Grammars.

Very useful to be able to compare the progress 8 scores ,
I've just had a look at all the Birmingham grammar , Queen Mary's and our local comprehensives , the choice is much clearer for us now . Thank you :D

This is PROVISIONAL data and Prgess 8 values should be given with their confidence intervals not as exact scores.

Please look at how they are calculated before using one year's data to make a decision.

Quasi,

Wondering how the Progress 8 score is worked out. Interesting to see FW well below some of the other grammars in area.

To put it into perspective, all these progress scores are really high. I just googled and found that selective schools have higher progress 8 scores than comprehensives nationally - an average of 0.33 for selective schools. All the scores above are higher than that!

It's not clear from what I've read but a lot must be driven by how many KS2 attainment groups they start with. For example, if they just start with three groups- low, middle and high attainers - there is still a huge range amongst the high attainers, from those who just scraped level 5s to those getting 6s. If they're alll compared against each other when it comes to GCSE results, you'd expect the Camp Hill lot to score higher and therefore show better progress on average than the 'high attainer' group from a local comp, which would be a much wider band.
