11+ Data Collection

Post by albi »

As a part of my GCSE statistics coursework, I need to collect as much data as possible on 11+ scores, gender and left/right handedness. Could you please reply and let me know, so I can draw up correlations.

Year group would also come in very handy.

Thank you

Excuse me - you should not be using us to collect your data!

Your GCSE coursework should be finished and marked by now if you are sitting the exam this year.

I would suggest you choose another topic -

My coursework is due in, Friday 4th April, and as I already have my data and have completed my coursework I am using an opportunity (out of interest) to analyse my results with a broader base of data.

So far, my data suggests left handers do not succeed on appeal into grammar schools.

Thank you for your reply.

From what you have posted I do not think your data collection is reliable - if it is for GCSE statistics this is not a complex problem as you have not considered enough linked variables- has your teacher checked your plan?

This is but one of my hypotheses, which I have linked at the end, but it is one which I am interested in, and so am heading off at a tangent. We had to look into 3 hypotheses, increasing in complexity throughout.

My background research brought me to this site, and I was just interested in taking this particular line of thought further. (possibly due to sibling interest)

No problem, unfortunately I’m not from Bucks and therefore my statistic is void in your hypotheses.

My son got 119 and is left handed

This sounds interesting - even if it is extra peripheral!!!

He got through appeal

There must surely be other left handers who got through on appeal!
