2017 Kent Test Raw Scores / Standardised Scores
I thought it might be useful to start a thread about raw scores if people are happy to share? I found last year's thread very helpful in trying to get a sense of what scores my boys ought to be aiming for on practice tests. I emailed KCC on Friday evening so am waiting to hear back - will post when I've got the info.
The format from last year's thread was something like:
Age of child on test day:
Raw Score English: /25 Standardised /141
Maths /25 /141
Reasoning /80 /141

I also found this enormously helpful.
Age 10 years, 9 months
English - 18 - 118
Maths - 16 - 119
Reasoning - 47 - 119
Total - 355
Totally happy with our sons mark but I have to say he scored a LOT lower on the maths and reasoning than he had done in practice/mocks before the test.

Twin 1
English - 16/25 - 115
Maths - 19/25 - 128
Reasoning - 45/80 - 119
Total - 362
Twin 2
English - 14/25 - 109
Maths - 15/25 - 119
Reasoning - 34/80 - 107
Total - 335
I know Twin 2 missed out a section of the English test but the reasoning really is skin of the teeth territory. Not sure what happened there as they both said that the test was easier than the practice tests they'd done. Oh well.
What I really don't understand is the big difference between standardised scores for similar marks / 25 for Maths and English. So 15/25 works out as 119 for maths but 14/25 only works out as 109 for English - massive difference! Seem to remember it was a similar story last year. A couple of their classmates failed to reach 106 on the English test, having easily passed the other papers. If I had one bit of advice to give anyone for next year, it would be to REALLY focus on the English paper.

Re: 2017 Kent Test Raw Scores / Standardised Scores
It's not difficult to explain - it just means that the maths paper was a bit harder than the English paper, so fewer people got high raw scores in maths. Therefore a child can get a higher standardised score with what seems like a low raw score, because everyone else's raw score is lower still.
Remember that standardisation shows where your child comes in the cohort. So for an easier paper you need to get higher raw scores to be in the top third (say) than for a harder paper.

Ah, that makes sense! I was assuming that the exams would all be equally hard but yes, I suppose it must depend on how teh raw scores look for each one. Thanks!

I could be wrong but I'm sure my DD said there were 26 questions this year in English. Anyone else know?
