commute from Earley in Reading to Wycombe High School

Hi,
anyone know of girls travelling from Earley, Reading to Wycombe High School? Is there any public/private transport available?

It doesn't look a great journey - are you likely to get a place from that distance?

And with good reason, that is a very long journey. I suspect you are too far to get a place anyway.

There's a public transport option, but at at least 90 minutes each way, it's not a practical commute. Even in a private car/bus it's about an hour each way.

If it were me, I would be looking elsewhere - either at a closer school or looking to move closer to Wycombe once you know if you have a place.

that would be a terrible journey to commit a child to for 5 or 7 years

If its grammar schools are so desirable, why not at least give your DD a chance to take part fully in what the school has to offer - and to socialise with friends who live local to it - by moving to High Wycombe?

The allocation of places at any GS school qualifying then catchment. You will only know if you have secured a place in February. They may hav gone out as far as Reading before but that doesn't mean they will this time. You need to have a backup plan too. Dollyx

Is this for September 2018 year 7 entry? How do you know she's assured of a place? If the reasons are personal, no need to post them here of course.

It is a really terrible journey - shared transport just means you don't have to suffer it every day but your child would.
I live on the edge of Earley and studied for 3 years at BCA, Burchetts Green which is at about the half way point and doesn't have the challenges of the Bisham or Handy Cross roundabouts. Due to traffic issues it regularly took me well over an hour to BCA and I was door-to-door and not having to combine with anyone else.
Please don't do this to a child. There are great schools in Wokingham that you may qualify for on catchment, as well as Maiden Erlegh in Reading.
