I am trying to see how standardised score is low compared to earlier years:

Does anyone know median or deviation for this year's result?

A parent mentioned that a few years ago with similar marks their DC got better SS. Is it getting difficult by the year?

Percentage, is percentage of raw score / Maximum raw score i.e. 120.

Standardised scores tell you how well your child did compared to the other children in the test. It is not a simple reflection of the percentage your child got right in the test.

What I have noticed is the majority of the raw scores this year is in the 40s and 50s whereas last year we saw a lot of 30s and 40s. Does that mean this year's papers as a whole are easier hence the higher scores which in turn means the SS will be relatively lower compared to last year. As an example, my DS got an SS of 324.42 while the identical raw score last year gave over 351.

If my DD had scored the same raw scores in last years test as she did this year (based on those posted in last year's thread) she would have scored around 345-350 (estimate) as it stands she scored 330.5. Quite a difference but a completely different test and candidates etc. So I guess lots of variables for the standiadisation.

Yes, but a reasonably high percentage is getting a reasonably low standardised score compared with previous years, it seems. Doesn't this mean that this year's raw scores must be higher overall? I'm not sure this necessarily means the tests are easier/harder, maybe this year's candidates were particularly high achievers? The number of candidates must also be a consideration - the more children taking the test, the more to be compared with..

Looking at the posted scores, these are my rudimentary calculations:

48 for English 50 for maths = 355.16

51 for English 50 for maths = 362.35

So for every one mark in English, you get 2.396... points approximately.

51 for English 46 for maths = 354.9

51 for English 50 for maths = 362.35

So for every one mark in maths you get 1.8625 points approximately.

This looks like even if maths was the more challenging paper, English carries a greater weight.

This is a very basic comparison. Correct me if I am wrong.

I don't think you can calculate the difference like that as I used a different set of scores:

44 for English 52 for maths = 348.85

49 for English 52 for maths = 361.76

Which gave 2.582 points for English.

quite a big difference in marks here so think the english is def worth more than the maths point for point
