Dr Challoners High school vs Watford girls

Post by bluesymum »

The exams are done.,the results are in.,it feels so surreal and a bit like an anti climax. I cannot express how invaluable and helpful this forum has been and all the lovely intelligent people inhabiting it.,
my dd bombed her music exam 19/45..
Thankfully, her academic scores are a(teeny) bit more promising, which brings me to the question- which school is nicer between Dr Challoners High and Watford girls.,
Which one offers better pastoral care, opportunities for personal growth and leadership, has wonderful ways of teaching math and science, .,and poetry and Shakespeare.,,dd is a little bit retiring and very innocent and kind.,and she really needs the extra care and an enabling environment from her peers and teachers.,could you please advise as to which would be the best fit for her.,

Are you close enough to get DCHS?

Which did she like when you went round on a school day?

Hi bluesymum

I know DCHS quite well but I don't know Watford Girls at all. If they are quite similar schools (which I think they probably are?) then I would go by how far away I lived and how my daughter would get to school.

We are just on the border for both schools( equidistant)..
dd liked DCHS better because the open day was a lot calmer and less chaotic though that could partly be because DCHS is a smaller school and less sprawling than Watford girls.,but Watford had a really nice music department and gymnasium and seemed to go on forever. To the outside eye, it's incredibly hard to tell which school is the better one.,

Equidistant - but how far? In catchment?

GO for the easiest travel if you are sure you might get both.

Thanks Guest55.,we are 8.3 miles from Dr C( straight line) and in outer catchment Watford.,.
The journey times will be the same for both schools.,.

Watford Girls is partially selective and it admits majority of pupils (137) based on distance. Watford girls will be a good choice if you prefer an all ability school with a selective stream. But looking at your requirements, Beaconsfiled high school will be more suitable for your chilld. If you live in reasonable distance from BHS and an easy transport is available, it could be the right choice.
