Essex girls grammars GCSE 2017 comparison

Post by RomfordDad »

Thought this might be useful for someone comparing/deciding which school to go for:

9 or 8 in English and Maths:

1. CCHSG 64%
2. CCHS 56%
3. WHSG 35%

9, 8 or 7 in English and Maths:

1. CCHSG 90%
2. CCHS 86%
3. WHSG 67%

Could not find similar info for SHSG, but looking at 9-5 results and 9 results only, it's most likelly very similar to WHSG.

Guess yours won't be going to SHSG, then?

No-one sensible would be choosing between these four schools - they are at opposite ends of a county with many traffic issues.

DfE performance tables:

Essex schools: https://www.compare-school-performance. ... =secondary" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Southend schools: https://www.compare-school-performance. ... =secondary" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

[Progress 8 - click on the ? to see the range of values - some overlap as it is given within a confidence interval]

Not saying that this should be what you base your choice on but many people could be choosing between at least 2 schools out of 4 and be in reasonable travelling distance of both I would think?

For what its worth, the Gov.UK website (link below) provides a mechanism for comparing 2017 exam performance for most schools (not just Grammar)

https://www.compare-school-performance. ... in-england" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

As regards the overall score (referred to as progress 8 score) all the Essex Girls Grammars are categorised as well above average putting them in the top 12% of schools in England on their performance, which I am sure will not come as a surprise.

if I have extracted the data correctly the scores are:

CCHSG, 91%
CCHS 76%
WHSG 74%
SHSG 72%

KEGS 91%
WHSB 76%

WHY have you reposted the link I provided?!

You haven't explained the data at all.

Your interpretation is very misleading. Progress 8 score is not the 'overall score' and the figures given are not percentages. If anyone is interested, then click on Guest 55's link above and read the data yourselves.

What you posted is Progress 8 score, that's a completely different thing.

I was posting GCSE results, now the government website is not very useful for that as for GCSEs it shows only "Percentage of pupils achieving strong passes (grades 9-5) in both English and mathematics GCSEs". You can't distinguish high performing schools with that statistic as they'll all be close to 100%.
