Is Wilsons top A-level school in 2017?

Post by MontyUd »

As per below link from sutton guardian, Wilson's is the top school in the country for a-level. However, I cannot find the news on times or any other website. Can someone demystify on what parameters was the evaluation done?

Thanks, but the above pdf is for gcse results. My question was about a-level results. I also saw this claim on a banner in front of Wilson's - the banner is about their upcoming sixth form open day/evening.

Hence I am curious to find out.

Ask them! Many schools don't submit results to the newspapers.

Here is the timetable for release:

October 2017 Provisional key stage 4 results (headline measures only, state-funded schools only)
January 2018 Revised key stage 4 results (including independent schools and full breakdowns),16 to 18 results for some measures, Multi-academy trust performance
March 2018 16 to 18 results for remaining measures

I think GCSE results would give the better picture of performance of a school. Because most schools take some external candidates for A-level and some schools get rid of poor grades students at GCSE's to stand top in the league table.

Hershel - as per the timetable I posted, GCSE data isn't complete in the DfE performance tables either.

As mentioned in the Sutton Guardian article, the ranking came from an article and table printed in The Times on results day.

The Sutton Guardian article also states that "30 per cent of Wilson’s grades were an A* with 97 per cent being A*-B" and I assume these figures are the basis of the ranking.

Unfortunately, The Times article is behind a paywall so I have not been able to read it, but if anyone has access they may be able to provide further information.

Fundamentally, although these tables are satisfying for the schools, I wouldn't use them as the primary reason to choosing your preferred secondary school.

I have access to The Times. Their table is based purely on the schools *who submitted their results to The Times on results day* - I limited results to state schools only when I searched:

A level results
