Afternoon everyone , this is my post in this forum. Just want to know if any parents here from Crawley area ( RH10 / RH11 post code ) whose kids has given the Sutton exam this year and what's their planning for next year. i.e

1) Will you be moving to Sutton permanently
2) Will you be sharing car with other kids from Crawley
3) or your Son/Daughter will be using public transport for commute.

Our general checklist of things to think about when carsharing.

Checklist when considering a car share:

• How much do you really know about this parent from a child safeguarding point of view? (Remember, anyone working with children, e.g. bus drivers for the school service, must have a current DBS form.)
• How much do you really know about their driving skills? Have you seen their insurance and car roadworthy details? (Remember that public transport and dedicated school services are required to have these, to a high level.)
• How would you cope if your child fell out with the other children in the car pool, or wanted to do different after school activities, or didn't want to stay after school when the other children were staying late?
• How would you cope if one of the other car pool parents had their car break down, or off the road for some other reason, at short notice?
• What if it's your turn to drive, and you or your child is sick?
• What if the other family turns out to be unreliable, or the driver/their child is regularly late, or ill?
• What if the other child moves to a different school?
• What if one child needs to stay after school for an activity or event?
• What if the driver smokes when driving?
• What if the driver's conversation turns out to be objectionable or age inappropriate?

It's nearly 20 miles from Crawley to Sutton. It's also a journey that means driving towards London during the morning peak, along the A23 past Gatwick Airport and across the M25. The journey there in the morning would probably be 60 mins, the drive home might be 40, reversed for the afternoon pick-up, so that's 200 minutes in the car every day for the driver.

Rail options seem to be in the region of 70-80 minutes, not including the time it would take to get to the station in Crawley or walk from the station at Sutton, and they have at least two changes, sometimes three. So probably three hours of travelling a day for the child, more if any of the connections don't work.

It's not really a viable long-term option. If your child has sat Sutton this year and you've put Sutton schools on your CAF, you'll need to move if you get a place at one of them. If you're thinking about sitting next year, you should consider moving now.

OP, Train from Three Bridges Station, Crawley to Croydon and then bus to WCGS would take about 50 to 60 mins, if you are near to station.

And if that's the line which has just had to agree to a 28.5% pay rise for its drivers to stop them going out on strike every few weeks, if you are lucky, there might even be trains running most days come next September .

So not a daft journey at all...
