Tween girl present suggestions please!

Post by Octsmum »

Hi

I'm feeling desperately void of any inspiration for 'main' presents for a tween girl! Any good suggestions from friends on the forum?

Thanks in advance!

Booking up a taster session for a new activity?
A fun photo session with friends?
Manicure and age appropriate nail painting?
Pottery painting with a friend or two?

Young Driver lessons (real car with qualified instructor and dual control) start at 10 or 11.

Depends on the spend and on her interests. Things which have been approved of by both genders here include:
Bike
Tent
Decent sleeping bag
New bed linen
New big soft towel
Camera
Art materials
Cookery book and utensils
Fleece blanket/nice cushions/soft lamp/picture frame for bedroom

If you mean activities: Climbing wall? Dry ski slope? Hike and cook food out in the open on a fire?

Anything else which busts girl stereotypes while there is still time to challenge them - so for me for a tween I would be avoiding anything which depends on appearance (make up, etc) or other 'girly' things. Now more than ever.

I would echo the climbing wall idea.
Also a "go ape" type place or ice skating?
One of dd's friends had a paintball party which went down very well (12th birthday).

My daughter really enjoyed a 'zookeeper for a day' experience when she was this sort of age. I had a quick Google and it seems to be available at most zoos around the country.

DD and some friends had great fun doing Go Ape when they were about 11. We went on a school inset day and had the place to ourselves.

DD would love to do it again, but I realised that I’m not as young as I was and DH has a massive fear of heights so she would need to find another adult to take her.

My niece is spending the day (today I think) on a zoo keeping experience for her 11th. DD loved an Owl handling experince she had a few years ago.

Some of the zookeeper experiences are very expensive, I didn't think I could justify it for one of DD's landmark birthdays (maybe I'm just mean!). You can also do similar at the London Aquarium. If it isn't just for her, Go Ape is a great idea, although I think you need one adult per child at that age.

Or do you have one of those Escape Room venues near you? They can be pretty good fun for a group of friends? I get that is more a party idea than a present per se but you could maybe pay for her and a mate to do it.

Depending on her interests you could take her to the theatre or a show.

Does she like science? We bought DD3 a microscope. We have looked at lots of horrible things including one of the dog's fleas!

DD3 was also keen to get her hands on a telescope.
