Bushey Mead leaving the consortium 2019 entry?

Post by 17leaver »

I notice that Bushey meads admissions policy for 2019/2020 entry is under consultation

There is no mention of the banding criteria or their technology test in their new proposed admissions, and their SIF no longer asks for test results, I would assume from this that they will no longer be part of the consortium.

Is that right?

Yes that's correct. Bushey Meads is going to be a direct secondary entry from Little Readings and other Bushey primary schools.

Yes, they announced they were leaving the consortium at the open evening this year.

Interesting.

What reason did they give for this?

DG - My response was one of the reason given to existing parents by the school that they want to be able to take on children directly from little reddings and other local bushey schools.

This information was given to me by a friend who already has a child attending the school and has a sibling that is currently in year 5.

Thank you.

So they wish to become a more local school.

First time I have heard of a school giving up its academic places. They clearly feel that being part of the local community is worth more.

I wonder if any other Consortium school will follow suit. DG

The school never really selected on academic ability the way other schools do. They use the test to put children into quartiles and then admit the same number of pupils from each quartile (based on distance). In effect, the further you lived from the school the higher the mark you needed to get in.
