Tiffin Girls Admissions in 2018 FAQ Updated

Post by stateschoolman »

It appears TGS have updated the FAQ "General questions for Year 7 admissions in September 2018"

I don't have the previous FAQ at hand - but noticed the following change :-

Do you make allowances for age?
For all tests, the raw marks are standardised and age-weighted.

This had previously stated :-
Do you make allowances for age?
The Stage One Test raw marks are standardised and age weighted. A decision regarding the Stage Two Test marks will be taken after the raw marks have been analysed.

Yes I noticed that! Does this mean that they are likely to have age adjusted the results from this years second round?

That's how I interpret it.

Also, based on the original statement, it would appear that they have completed marking the papers.

Yes I guess they have finished marking and collating the results. They must have reached the decision to age standardise based on the spread of scores?

By now, all schools would have also informed their home LA of their selected candidates. Process of finalizing the offers would also be nearly completion now.

Schedule 1 of scheme for coordinated admissions shows the relevant dates.

As per Schedule 1 of the coordinated admissions scheme, currently
Sending/receiving of potential offers via PLR to out of
borough LAs to identify single offer
would be in progress.

Pretty much a done deal then? Just a matter of telling us now!

Its a validation stage, the school checks the application against the criteria, depending on meeting criteria will effectively give position on list

For TGS would include, looked after children?, are they in inner area, are they within outer area, what was test score, was there supplementary info (eg medical etc)
For some schools would be religious criteria (rather than test). Get sub-lists for each criteria band.

What the school will not know yet is if its applicants will meet conditions for a higher ranked school
Only when the computerised allocation is kicked off (sorting everyone for every school), will it leave those who have it as highest ranked school for which they qualify.
Therefore candidate might be (as example) ranked 267 at this stage, but 73 get allocated to higher ranked other schools, so now number 194 for TGS

I have never seen the number of initial offers published, might not be 180, could be something different like 190 (as historically expecting some to decline, say 25). This slightly speeds up the next step as it saves time in not having to offer the first 10 on the waiting list during March as declines come in. It does however tend to mean the first waiting list offers only happen end of March / early April (and this year might slip to after Easter break)

There are plenty of threads from 12, 24, 36 months ago about what happens in March. Initially positions on waiting lists can go up or down (as those with late changes since application date get inserted/removed from lists), consequently positions are not normally given out for about 3 weeks (or included on the March 1st advice) , as people might get upset if they move backwards.

Rather academic, but Schools would have submitted their ranked list by 10th January. Now LAs would be sorting out successful higher preference for each applicant. For example, some one may be in top 180 for TGS and also in top 93 of HBS. System will now check which one is the higher preference between the schools put on CAF. This process is expected to be completed by 14 Feb and then final offers will be checked, rechecked and in the last week before National Allocation Day, primary schools will also be part of this checking process.

There is a good sticky post by Stroller for what to do after the offer day, written specifically for TGS.

Do primary schools find out which school a child has been allocated before the 1 March?
