Urgent-what To do with exchange student?
Hi
We have got a cute one of these age 15 to look after for the weekend but think she is probably bored with London sights and museums and tired of speaking English-dd2 is tearing her hair out trying to arrange an outing with mates including a couple from the same foreign group- they aren’t answering (we reckon all still in bed!).
Our suggestions of zoo or day trip to I.e. Cambridge en famille was met with derision. Any other ideas that have worked well, chaps?
And yes we have pointed out that a 5 star vacation is not the actual point of this, to predictable response!

Need to get your skates on (assuming that I'm remembering your general location correctly ), but somewhere like Cadbury World? Or is she the kind of 15 year old who doesn't like chocolate? I have heard that they exist, although I have no experience of them, personally .

Mega bowl and cinema? Warwick Castle?

Are you sure she wants to 'do' something? Maybe after days of being dragged round the worthy sights she might like to lie on her bed and do nothing for a bit. We all need space and time to relax.
And then what about some cooking/baking? My foreign friends who come here have all asked to do that - scones, cakes etc. Cook a meal together? Get a film in to watch, perhaps with one of the others from the group who she gets on with?

Agree with Amber - depending on how long she has been here child is probably exhausted and would appreciate some time alone to read her book, message her mum or go back to sleep. Failing that 15 year olds are often happy to shop! Sounds like you may have covered that though. Let us know if you come up with any good ideas. DD2 currently in Spain and Spanish girl coming for return visit in 6 weeks time.

Bowling can work - although more fun with a group. Offer to host a gathering of the local exchange students and "partners" for takeaway pizza tonight?

This time last year, we had DD’s Spanish exchange partner with us. On the Saturday, which was the only ‘free’ day as the rest of her time had been packed with visits, sightseeing etc, she and DD just went shopping in our local shopping centre during the day which was a great success. She couldn’t get over how cheap books were compared to at home in Madrid and a trip to Sports Direct (sorry Amber!) was also a success to buy souvenirs for her Chelsea FC mad twin brother. In the evening we went up to the O2, did the cable car over the Thames then got a bite to eat in The O2. Sometimes, things that seem relatively normal and mundane to us, are the most successful insight into our lives for a visitor.

Give them a range of options and get them to choose.

...If they were here, they'd be watching the 6 Nations....!! Sport is a rite of passage in most British homes - it's a cultural experience of sorts....?!
