Comprehensive to Grammar

Post by Guest »

Hi all, :?

Bit of a long one this but our daughter was destined to go to a local comprehensive (which happens to be out of catchment for us) where both her brother and sister have been. Sadly this year admission rules changed and our son in yr 12 is no longer a sibling. When we contacted the school and Herts education in May this year we were categorically told 'its no problem her having a place because she has an older sibling there..." so did not worry about 11+ preparation.

My daughter has been in the Herts system for all her schooling and is obviosuly heartbroken that she may not be able to move up with friends.

Nevertheless we have to face the prospect that she may not get a place. The local in-county school for us is not an option as far as we the parents are concerned. However, a couple of in catchment grammar schools are very good and we've started the ball rolling re 11+ coaching/assessment.

Question is, has anyone experience of something similar (non-grammar system into grammar) and any hints/tips on prep. We realise it will be a late entry for exams but we'll do whatever is needed.

Thanks

Hallo!
When is the exam - what does it consist of (ie. Maths, VR NVR English)-
and is it M/C or standard?
You can do it - where there is a will there is a way!
It will mean a lot of hard intensive work, but is perfectly possible.
Good luck and get back to here and someone can advise what books etc you need to have.

Dear Phil

Have you seen the section on Herts further down the front page of the forum?

May be of some help in preparation.
