Does SAT score has any significance going forward?

Post by Varsha2017 »

How does a SAT score help in a secondary school? Or does it not?

As G55 says, the progress and attainment of each child is tracked from starting school ( baseline at 4 soon.)
Data is analysed.
The rest of this document is quite interesting too.

I think it depends on the school. At RHS they did their own baseline scores in the first couple of weeks which they are then measured against for the following years. It seems lots of schools do it that way.

Those more knowledgeable could talk about Progress8 scores which I think are related to SATs.

The scores are used by the government to check progress of children throughout their education.

Children are sources of data..who progress evenly throughout their life, regardless of illness, bereavement or anything else that life may throw at them..

I believe some secondary schools may use SAT results to place the children in 'sets' for some subjects.

My DS & DD SAT results weren't used when they went to KEFW as all subjects in years 7 & 8 are taught in forms. When my DS started his GCSE courses in year 9, they were then placed in sets for Maths only and this was determined by process throughout the last 2 years.

All schools will operate differently, but theoretically all kids are bright at GS so I personally think the SAT score is irrelevant!

Schools don't tend to read much if anything in to sats results as they know that most schools have teachers that guide them in the exam so not a reliable source of guaging the reality. About 2-3 weeks in there will probably be in-house tests to measure their ability under the new schools supervision!!

As has been said before, they are not necessarily used to allocate sets etc. but will be used to measure children's progress throughout their schooling. This is required by the government,
