A kilogram of oranges is t + 10 pence

So 4kg is 4(t + 10) = 4t + 40 a bit hard for 11+ imho

Dd has put £40 but I think it's £200

A loaf weighing 400g is in th3 shape of a cuboid.
The cuboid has length 16cm, height 7cm and width 7cm.
Which is the closest estimate for the volume of 1g of the loaf.
Dd put 5cm3. I have no idea where to start in working this one out.

How many coins are there in 1kg? Each coin weighs 5 grams, so what is 5 divided by 1000?

If each coin in the bag is worth 20p, how much is the bag worth? The number of coins in the bag (200) times the value of each coin (20p) equals 4000p or £40.00.

So unless I've missed something, your DD is correct. Why do you think it's £200?

Thank you. I am so frazzled with this maths paper. I was only getting as far as the first step I think so divided 1000 by 5 to get to 200 but clearly missed step 2! Thank you so much

We are given the volume of 400g of loaf - it is 7x7x16. This is (I hope) 784cm cubed.

If you are rounding quite broadly, you could say that it is approximately 800cm3. That would mean that 400g=800 cm3, so 1g would be 2cm3.

I don't know what options you were given though so I don't know close the estimate is meant to be.

We are asked to estimate

Volume = 16 x 7 x 7

1g vol = [16 x 7 x 7]/400 approx [16 x 50]/400 which is 2 cm^3

Note I did not work out the volume, just rounded and simplified.
