They are fortunate if they can change - if groups are full then it will be a 'No' to any change.

I think some of DDs class mates may be finding maths harder than they thought and maybe considering it.

I did warn DD it would seem like a big step up to start with and not to worry, but actually she seems to be doing OK. She seems very happy with all her subjects at the moment and none of her friends are mentioning wanting to change. At least not as far as I know.

DD surprised us all by dropping photography. She decided that French, English and psychology were a better bet for university.

Students haven't done any maths for three months - they are rusty. This is why many universities do not like gap years for maths degrees. This is why many school set holiday work to keep those skills honed.

If they get their heads down and work then they will be fine. A good website [written for able students] for Edexcel is here https://www.drfrostmaths.com/sow.php?ye ... &term=Main" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

DD did some maths bridging work over the holiday, but did bits here and there throughout rather than all at the beginning or the end. Maybe that’s helped.

Having not been able to take both biology and further maths (as they were in the same block) DD's school has now rejigged the timetable so she can at least try doing both. Personally I think it will be too much for her, as not only has she gained the extra work, she has lost 7 study periods. She is keen to try all 4 at least until Half term. She is enjoying chemistry and maths, and not in quite such a panic about biology, although I think me helping her work out how to organise her folders has helped with the panic!

DD is doing OCR for Maths A level - is there a lot of variation between the boards?

The pure is similar but question style and exams are different. You'd need to check the specifications .. I'm really only familiar with the new Edexcel.
