Is 'PASS Score' ENOUGH for Wilmington/Gravesend Grammar?

Post by Sparkle18 »

I need further information from you all,

My son has passed the Kent 11+, can anyone advise that other than the LAC/PP/SEN/Siblings/etal, are the remaining places allocated to boys assessed as suitable for grammar by distance or by score?

Thanks

Distance - last year 12 boys who passed didn’t get offered either school as they were both over subscribed. Gravesend offered the most at appeal but only to these 12 boys. For information it was the new ash green area that seemed to be the place most were from x

Just to be clear these 12 boys who didn’t get a first round offer were in the catchment area. My DS was OOC so outside the catchment but 4.4 miles from Wilmington and didn’t get in. There is little chance of either school if you are not living in KCC. The priority is for those in the catchment area and there are enough boys to fill the intake without taking OOC.

Sparkle18 of you go onto the WGSB website and look at their admissions policy there are a number of drop down documents. One of these is a FAQ document and has some really good information about scores, distances and waiting lists. Sorry I can't post a link for some reason but it is definitely worth a look.

That sounds a little far for W, unless your in one of the named parishes? My dd has started at Wilmington, and has classmates travelling from Thamesmead and Woolwich, but I know there was a fair bit of last minute change. several girls in her class didn't come to the induction day in early july, as their offers were later.

Wilmington are normally quite open about the distance they offered the previous year at the open evening/day. It was on a board in one of the rooms, and I heard a parent discussing it with staff - we were concerned that if the distance shrunk we might not get in (Im pretty sure it was less than 3 miles the previous year, but higher than that before), but turned out not to be a problem. If your trying to decide if whether to visit, the admissions office would probably tell you their offer distance for this years starters over the phone on Monday morning.

Open evening Monday evening/daytime has to be booked but is on tues morning. my dd will be escorting tours, along with the rest of the girls in the school.

Good luck

Thanks for your help! Yes, I have a tour booked for Tuesday but will try calling the admissions office to ask beforehand. I just dont want to waste a spot on the CAF if we have no chance. We are in Petts Wood btw.

I know girls who went to Wilmington for Sept 2015 entry but not since. That year they had a bulge class too. Petts Wood girls do however seem to get Weald of Kent places and I see the private bus to Weald on my way to Petts Wood Station on the corner of Tudor Way and Fairway at about 7.45am

Thanks for that. That is good to know. Bexley and Bromley publish previous catchments but can't seem to find catchments for Kent. This is very helpful. :)

I was able to see the Wilmington Girls catchments on the FAQ document:
