Anyone in Halesowen area going to AKE or Handsworth boys?

Hi,

We are thinking in applying for Aston or Handsworth boys but we are worried that the journey is too long for our son to get there. I know that the green bus leaves from Quinton.
Any advise?

Are you anywhere near a train station? Not sure about Aston but there are lots of Handsworth boys going into either New St or Snow Hill then taking a bus or tram to Handsworth. Would that be an option?

Yes, Old hill Station.

But I am worried that he is too young to use public transport on his own.

I can drive him to Quinton and he can take the green bus too.

You could do that at first and then gradually transition to public transport.

We did that (from Northfield). If I had my time again I’d not have bought an annual pass as ds was ready to use public transport from Jan/Feb but we had to mainly stick with the green bus having paid for it. They do grow up very quickly in year 7! And my ds is a young one too with an August birthday.

If I was you I’d go for the school with the most flexible public transport options, on the basis that the green bus is expensive and inflexible for 5/7 years.

Centro journey planner is very helpful.

I had a quick look and it seems from Old Hill station he wouldn’t need to go into town, he could change at the Hawthorns and get the tram. Total journey time including walking was only about 40 mins. This is for Handsworth - I’m not sure about Aston.
