What is HIKNOS ?
I am using the (the tutors papers) and have read about HIKNOS.
Can someone explain what this is and if they would be covered on the tutors papers.
I am on the Wirral ?
Thanks
Pete

Dear Pete
HIKNOS are 6 types of questions as identified by the publishers IPS.
NFER are the publishers for the Wirral 11 plus test and Bucks, and some other parts of the country
Shop bought Nfer only cover 15 types of questions, the real NFER test in the Wirral, Bucks and some other areas, have 21 types.
The additional 6 types are HIKNOS
AFN, IPS, Susan Daughtrey [Bright Sparks ONLY] cover the 21 types.
Hope this clarifies the situation.

Many thanks for the quick replies... perfectly Understood.
One more question. I notice Non VR is not mentioned as being part of the Wirral 11+, so I am assuming it is definately not in the 11+ this year.
Is there absolutely no way they would throw in questions for NON VR ?
should I be going through these with her or am I wasting my time at this stage.
she is busy as it is going through the 21 question types.
many thanks

Hi Peter J
You should be receiving a familiarization pack from the LEA shortly. If there are any changes in the Wirral tests they will appear in these packs. Wirral primary schools tend to get their packs before out of area students. So if you are out of area it may be worth requesting a pack now.
It is best to concentrate on the 21 VR question types and assosiated papers, assuming that the papers will be the same as previous years.
Every student will be in the same position if there are any changes and you will have at least six weeks to react to any changes as Wirral 11+ tests are one of the latest held in the country.
Regards
Mike

NFER Question Types For Wirral
According to NFER the multiple choice Verbal Reasoning Tests that can be bought from any good bookshop are as close as you can get to the real 11+ test. All of the question types for the real test are covered in this pack of tests (There are four A-D test papers in the pack) and so although teaching other 11+ exam question types are useful and will teach transferable skills, all you need can be found in the NFER Multiple Choice Verbal Reasoning Test Papers. If Wirral LEA were to begin using another system such as Non Verbal, English, Maths or from Multiple Choice to Standard format, this would be known months, if not years, in advance so there is no chance that they will suddenly change anything. Wirral pays NFER to write their papers for them and this is planned well in advance. Hope this helps!
Dear Little Notes
Less than politely What a Load of Rubbish. What credentials do you have to mislead people in such a way?
Everyone with an insight into Wirral LEA know this
1. Look at the NFER familiarization packs sent to parents by the LEA. They contain 21 question types.
2. Look at the NFER preparation packs. They contain 15 question types.
3. Last year Wirral used all 21 question types in their test. How do I know this? Because The Tutors tutored over 50 students for the test and we got feedback from all of them confirming the content.
Please what ever you do, do not believe Little Notes posting. Your child could be underprepared by nearly 30% if you do.
