Wallington County Grammar School

Post by Eleven11plus »

hi guys,
My son has been offered Wallington County Grammar school. Are there any parents who have kids going to that school ? Any feedback, positive or negative on the school would be great.

I know several families with boys who went to WCGS and they are very happy with the school.

The Head made a great impression at the Open day.

The only issue that had been mentioned was absence of lockers - and I think that has been sorted.

Hi,

I have a boy at WCGS in year 8.

My overall opinion is that it is an excellent school. My Son enjoys it (as much as boys like school!) and has made good friends. The teachers are excellent and expectations are high. The school prides itself on discipline which I think adds a bit of stress for the boys for sometimes pretty minor issues, however I imagine this relaxes as the boys move through the school.......and both grow up and start to do as they are told !

A few other things that spring to mind:

- Sports facilities and teaching of sport is excellent
- Sports facilities are on-site but also have playing fields over towards Banstead.
- No swimming pool / swimming not taught at all
- GCSE's done over 3 years (start in year 9) vs. 2 years at most schools
- Investment in buildings - there have been a number of new buildings added in the last few years.
- House system and house competition system is important
- Young headmaster, relatively new to the school
- Prides itself on reputation and high standards.

I hope that helps!

@wingman

May I ask what is the music like at Wallington, please? Do they have an orchestra?

Thanks!

Thank you!

I was concerned as I'd heard there wasn't a great provision for musicians but looks like there is after all!
