Headteacher recommendation 4 Bucks GS -is there a framework?

Post by Mathmomum »

Hi
lots of great info on this site! Is there a framework/layout that headteachers use when writing letters of recommendation? We are out of Bucks so Head not sure what to include for a Bucks GS appeal. DD qualified so appealing on oversubscribed criteria. I have noticed in some posts parents have mentioned 'head recommended 2,1 or 2,2'. Our Head is happy to help but keen to not miss out anything that would be useful. Thanks :)

Hi

Start by reading this

And for Bucks specifically

Welcome! :)
I have noticed in some posts parents have mentioned 'head recommended 2,1 or 2,2'.
These particular recommendations were used for unqualified children whose parents requested a non-statutory review - so not applicable in your particular case.

As you say your appeal is purely against oversubscription, there's usually not much a headteacher can do.
He certainly shouldn't be writing a character reference, which is a common mistake.
It rather depends what sort of arguments you're putting forward for wanting a place at a particular school.

If the headteacher is in a position to back up any of your arguments, that could be extremely useful.
See the last paragraph of B48:

If oversubscription will also be an issue at appeal, it would help to have some support for why this particular school would be suitable (for example, “a keen interest in science” if the school is noted for the strength of its science department. “A very able but vulnerable child who needs the support of a close circle of friends who will be attending the school.”)
