Travel from Worcester Park to Tiffin Girls School

Post by WParkMum »

Hello

We have just been offered TGS, having originally placed it as our second choice, and wanted to get views about the travel to and from TGS from parents whose DDs travel from or through Worcester Park.

Any information such as how long it takes on the buses, what time your DDs set off, whether your DDs walk it to school once in Kingston, or is it faster to take the number 65 bus, whether the buses get crowded, whether they get a seat etc would be extremely useful.

Also I would be interested to hear what time they get home if coming straight home and what time they usually get home after clubs. Do they have much of an evening, after doing homework? Does the 'commute' exhaust them?

Do a lot of your DD's friends tend to come from far and wide? I am keen for my DD to make friends with girls who live fairly locally, which will make things easier when they socialise.

I'd be really grateful for any information.

Many thanks.

Hi WPark mum,

My dd is currently in TGS and in Year 7 and we live in WP. She gets the 7:10 bus and gets to school at 8:15, with time to spare in school and in Kingston ( to get a snack for break).

Initially the buses were a nightmare, lots of road works, so she had to experiment with the trains, changing at Raynes park and then heading into Kingston. She managed to make friends in other classes ( in her year) who lived either in Worcester Park or New Malden to get the train ( this was a bit daunting but managed with other girls) or bus.

As for the 65 she sometimes walks or catches the bus when leaving school but normally gets the bus there.

The first half-term was a bit stressful, tryinng to find out which route suits her best but she is totally fine now. If your child has a phone I downloaded an app called Life 360 which is brilliant, so I can track her when she goes to school.

Some parents pool together and share car lifts but I would encourage getting public transport, that is where she will make friends in other classes and learn how to manage her time.

TGS did not give any homework in the 1st half term which was brilliant, giving her time to adjust to getting to school, encouraging activities after school and making friends.

Congratulations to both you and your daughter. So far our experience of TGS has been lovely.

Thanks sleeplessmum, that's very helpful.

Does your DD get the 213 bus or the X26?

Also, what time does she usually get home after school? Is she a lot later if doing any clubs at school?

Many thanks.

Hi,

She normally gets the 213, X26 is a bit packed but sometimes gets the x26 on the way home.

She comes home at 4:20’ish and of staying for a club can get home just after 5:30’ish due to traffic.

Initially she was tired but now she has got used to it and it has been her choice to stay for a club, so she knows what time she will he getting home.
