Fraud
How does one avoid being defrauded on this forum? How does one know that the person they are dealing with is indeed genuine, before handing over their hard earned cash? Any advice from those who have the appropriate experience, and those members who have been on this forum for long? Thanks in advance.

I assume you are referring to tutor recommendations. Please see message below which I have copied over from another tutor request:

Welcome if you are new to the forum!
We try to keep the forum as safe as possible - we don't allow tutors or tutoring organisations (other than school/PTA and non-commercial organisations) to be openly recommended, because it attracts posts with fake recommendations ('dodgy' advertising solely designed to solicit business on the internet).
It is also not unknown for unscrupulous competitors to 'plant' negative posts, seeking to denigrate the opposition!
Genuine recommendations from forum members by PM only (private message) are permitted - but be aware of the possibility that someone who appears to be a 'helpful parent' offering advice may not be all they seem! There could be an ulterior motive.
Always treat recommendations from unknown persons with great caution.
However, we have many long standing members - check carefully the date of joining and number of posts - who make a very valuable contribution to the forum. If you receive a private recommendation from one of them, it could be worth considering.
Please let us know if you think anyone is abusing the system by soliciting for business or 'spamming'.
It's easy to report a possible problem - just click on the red exclamation mark that appears with every post and PM:

Ask for details of previous customers so you can speak to an actual reference.
Steer clear of anyone who asks for a term's fees up front and ties you in.
A trial period is very reasonable to ask for. It is a personality connection and it does not always work for a variety of reasons so both parties need to be able to end it if it is not working.
Do not tie yourself in to any long contract. DG

I would add that this forum is way more than about handing over cash. It is about advice. DD had a tutor for a few weeks (sourced locally not via the his forum) but they weren’t any good. This forum was so helpful in our journey of preparing for the test and then first day at school etc. Many have found it helpful so return to help out.
If you see someone post or send you a pm you can click on ‘profile’ and from there see a history of their posts. You can then get a flavour of their experience and helpfulness.

If it is to do with paying a tutor for your child, then note that any arrangement you have with a tutor is a private arrangement and nothing to do with the forum - however we do post some advice of things to consider (above)
