I've read somewhere that Langley were taking children with a pass score of 116. What is the lowest score someone has got through to at Burnham Grammar?

Burnham Grammar is in Buckinghamshire so you sit the Bucks 11+ - qualifying score is 121 although lower scores will get through on appeal.

You cannot compare the two scores ...

BGS is in the Bucks system, where score is irrelevant provided the child passes the Bucks 11+.

The pass mark is 121, so any child achieving that score (or up to the maximum score of 141) would be eligible for a place at Burnham. A lower score would also count provided the parents won a successful appeal against non-qualification.

From that point onwards, score is completely irrelevant - what matters are the admission criteria. In brief they are sibling priority and distance from school gates.

BGS has been heavily undersubscribed for some years now, so provided a child passes the 11+ and the parents have put BGS on their CAF form, the child will gain a place at the school.

Sorry I'm a bit confused...so if a child scores 116 what is the process are they put on a waiting list....??

No - you have to qualify via the Bucks 11+. If you score 116 you would need to go to appeal to be deemed 'selective'. Waiting lists only apply to 11+ qualifiers and Burnham Grammar is usually undersubscribed.

Bucks allocates places on distance from the school (if it's on your CAF) not on score (once you've qualified)

Yes - at 12+ you need to 'qualify' - ie score 121+ on the one VR paper but the standardising is slightly different.

A score of 116 would need to appeal as at 11+.

The scores on other tests cannot be equated to the Bucks tests - different papers AND different standardisation process.

Your chances of success at an Appeal in Bucks on a score of 116 are only around 40%, compared to 70% on a score of 120.

However, as Guest55 rightly says, the Berks and Bucks tests are not comparable.

At the risk of being absurdly picky, I'd just add the words "on average" to the above statement.

One's personal chances of success with a score of 116 may be much higher or lower than 40% depending on what's in your appeal armoury. Same is true for a score of 120.

And besides, I haven't posted much lately.

Not wishing to offend you but perhaps you are confusing the two different tests.

Just to clarify that Langely Grammar is a Slough school so therefore the test is different as is the pass score which is 111. Because alot of the Slough Grammars are over subscribed a 111 pass does nto guarantee a place and yes Langley Graammar tends to start as high as 120 and comes down to about 114 in the end. Also Slough Grammar School has there own test now which they administer differently, you'll need to ask about this on the Berks section for clarification.

The Bucks test is a different test with a pass score set at 121.
