Entrance exam timings

Post by jvb16 »

Hi,

Could anyone please tell me the approximate timings for the entrance test day please? (Drop off time, test start time, test end time, pick up time, etc) I’ve looked online but can’t find any info.

Thank you!

They usually start around 10am on the Saturday and finish around 12:30 as I recall.
The children have a break half way through.

The info should arrive in a letter from the school you have applied to. They give you the drop off time (and sometimes place), your child will be greeted and escorted to a room, they will have an information brief on the test. Half-way they have a break (15 mins?), before the second part begins. After the test, papers are collected before the children are escorted out. As a couple of hundred sit the test at each school, they do try to stagger the classes coming out so you may be waiting for a while - so don't panic if your child is last :!:
Good luck.

The previous poster is right that you should get all the info about timings, where to go etc from the school. If it helps, 2 years ago, we had to be at Marling by 8.45am (for a 9.30am start) - we got there a bit early & the queue was already epic, so lots of people obviously get there much earlier! The gates opened at 8.45am & a member of staff checked each child had their registration form & ushered them in as fast as possible. In case you're not aware (I know some parents aren't), your child goes in without you - they are well looked after by older boys & staff, but parents aren't allowed further than the gate. The boys came out about 12.15pm - SHS obviously started more promptly because there were girls walking along Cainscross Road when we arrived, while we had to wait a few minutes for the boys. You are asked to come into the school grounds to meet them - it reminded me of waiting by an airport baggage carousel for it to start moving!
Hope this helps. Best of luck. :-)

Not in Glos., but when DS2 sat our local 11+ six years ago, at pick up we had to go and sit in the hall and each room's candidates were led out in turn. DS2's room must have started early, because even though I got there bang on time, he complained that he had had to 'go round' three times before being claimed .

I think they are a lot earlier.

I know Marling and SHS try to have staggered start times, and take turns as to who is earlier.
You can be asked to be there at 8:15, for a 9 am start. of 8:45 for a 9:30 start.
Cainscross Road is manic, so I have heard is the road outside Pates.

Wait outside till doors open and then wave them off/in.
Collection - they are always earlier than they say, so be there 15 minutes before the time!

Gates open for registration 8am - pupils must be registered by 8.40am so I guess a 9am start
