Re: examples tiffin maths questions
Start by looking at what you know.
T R A C E = 20
C A R E= 18.
R+A+C+E = C+A+R+E = 18.
T + R +A+C+E = 20
SO..T MUST = 20-18 = 2.
YOU NOW KNOW THE VALUE OF ONE OF THE LETTERS.
Sorry about the caps lock!
T R A C E = 20
C A R E= 18.
R+A+C+E = C+A+R+E = 18.
T + R +A+C+E = 20
SO..T MUST = 20-18 = 2.
YOU NOW KNOW THE VALUE OF ONE OF THE LETTERS.

Is it just me...?
No.16:
CARE =TRACE - T (i.e 20 - T) = 18.
Therefore T = 2.
CART = TRACE - E (i.e.20 - E) = 16
Therefore E = 4.
RAT = CART - C
Therefore for RAT also to be 16, C must = 0.
But if EAR = 13 and E = 4, AR = (13 - 4) =9
And we know that T = 2, so RAT = 9 + 2 =11.
Or have missed something?

No, it’s not just you, the answer can’t possibly be 16ToadMum wrote:Sulikhan wrote:16) Each of the following letters represents a number

Lets start with the tables of 7 with 4 empty tables ... lets assume there are only 4 tables. This gives us 24 people, which is not a multiple of 9. Keep adding 7 to the number of people until you arrive at a multiple of 9 and you have the answer.

Re: examples tiffin maths questions
As we are dealing in percentages, lets assume the original cost of the bike is £100. After a 15% discount, the cost of the bike will be £85. The actual discounted price of the bike is £238. Does that help to calculate the original price?Sulikhan wrote: 43)Jas buys a bike that has been reduced in price by 15%in a sale.If Jas pays £238 for the bike what is the original price in pounds before the sale?

Re: examples tiffin maths questions
£238 = 85%
Therefore divide 238 by 8.5
Then multiply by 10
= £280
Therefore divide 238 by 8.5
Then multiply by 10
= £280

OP, is the answer given definitely '16', because there doesn't seem to be any logical way that it can be?
