Pass mark for English and Maths

Post by Blue_Marigold »

Hi,

This year the pass mark for GCSE Maths and English was a 4 but my friend’s son got a 3 in both. He will have to resit both exams. I heard that next year the pass mark is going up to a 5. So when my DD does her exams if she gets a 4 she will have to resit.

My question is, if a child who got a 3 this year resits in 2020, will they also have to get a 5? It seems a bit harsh...

We have not received any official communication saying this.
AQA state "Grade 4 will remain the level that students must achieve without needing to resit English and Maths post-16.".
