Generally, means testing refers to them analysing ALL your income/expenditure including assets (which would include savings, yes.) They are unlikely to give a bursary to someone who had savings that they could spend on school fees, or to someone whose parents didn't both work (if they had no dependants), for example. Bursaries are there to support those who have no other way of accessing an independent education without one - although many schools do have relatively high income thresholds.

Your best bet is to have an informal discussion with the school bursar about whether you could realistically expect anything. That is their job and they are usually very amenable to having these discussions beofre you apply as it is in everyone's interest if you know the score up front. You do have to fill in very detailed financial forms, if you are applying for/offered a bursary and the means testing is carried out every year.

Habs and St Albans both give very generous bursaries but only to girls who do well in the 11 plus exams.

I strongly suggest you start preparing for the exams.

If she does well then they will be keen to work with you to secure her as a pupil at their school. DG
