Qualifying score for BVGS

Hello,

DS got 220 and he is PP, I am wondering what are his chances to get a place at BVGS, given the introduction of catchment areas on the other KE grammars. Live 5 mile from school.

Are you out of catchment for the B'ham Grammars?

I don't think anyone will be able to hazard a guess as to the scores required for Sutton schools or OOC for B'ham yet

No, we are in the Pheasey area (Walsall), a bit outside the Aston grammar catchment area.

For the Birmingham Grammars I think you would fall into this category:

3. If fewer than 25% of the PAN places are filled by applicants in
category 2, offers will be made to children attracting the Pupil
Premium who achieve the qualifying score and live outside the
catchment area, until a total of 25% PAN children attracting the Pupil
Premium have been offered. If 25% or more places are filled by
applicants in category 2, there will be no offers made from this
category. Applicants in this category will be ranked by test score.
Where scores are equal, priority will be given to those with a sibling**
at the school; then by distance from the school.
these children must score 205 or more and will be offered places if the 25% has not been met - they will be ranked by score

We don't know how many in area PP children there will be, there may well be places for OOC children at the B'ham grammars in this category.

BVGS is still more of a puzzle but nothing to lose when putting it on the CAF. Just make sure that there is also a local school you can be fairly confident of getting is you don't get a selective place

Good point - case of being in the top 38 PP, in view of previous scores definitely nothing to lose by putting it on the CAF, - no-one knows the cutoff until they have allocated places to the top 38 who also list it on the CAF

Hi, new to this. DS has a score of 229 and is PP. looking at BVGS as live less than 2 miles away. Also in catchment for KEAston. Do you think it’s likely with that score that DS will get into BV?

Welcome - have a look at the comments above - to get into BV, you would need to be in the top 38 of people with PP scores who apply distance would be irrelevant

For Aston, you would extremely likely to get a place as in catchment

You could put BVGS then Aston (if that is your genuine preference), if you don't get BVGS you wouldn't miss out on Aston

Many thanks for your help. Keeping fingers crossed that he gets BVGS. Awaiting QMGS results too so will wait for that before making decision about CAF.
Do we have any idea how many PP applicants there are year on year? And how many PAN places actually get filled? Would be interesting to know.
