HBS vs Tiffin Girls
Hi
Please share your experience of what should be the preference between HBS and Tiffin Girls.
The location is not a constraint or criteria for us.
The main criteria are overall school culture, academics, extra curricular activities and future prospects.
Perhaps, many parents would have gone through similar challenge.
Would welcome thoughts from parents in either of these schools on their choice and reason behind it.
Also, please suggest suitable post codes or areas for easy commute to either of these schools. We are happy to relocate there.

Re: HBS vs Tiffin Girls
You’ll find the list of postcodes that are eligible for the Tiffin Girls’ School in their determined admissions arrangements document. HBS is giving priority to pupils who live close to the school. Again, the specifics will be on the website.
TGS takes 180 girls per year. HBS is smaller. A larger pool offers more possibilities for friendship groups.

Re: HBS vs Tiffin Girls
Thanks for the response. I am aware of post codes and admission criteria etc.
The question was more from the perspective of areas which provide good transportation options and are recommended for both the schools. For e.g. it could be Twickenham / Isleworth for Tiffins and Stanmore / Pinner for HBS.
Also, which school is better for different areas.
Any guidance from parents of pupils in either of HBS or Tiffins would be very useful.
Thanks,

Has your DD taken the exam this year? If so, which school did you / she feel would best suit her when yo attended the open evenings?

If budget allows, Winnington Road or Bishops Avenue for HBS, or any where in Hampstead Garden area.ss1612 wrote:Thanks for the response. I am aware of post codes and admission criteria etc.

Alternatively, Finchley would be nice.
TGS is usually a point or two behind in league tables, so better not to be explored in details.

It sounds as though you don't know these areas at all. Don't you have any other factors that matter if you're thinking of moving? Any other children who will need a school? No friends or family? No activities or hobbies that would be affected? No job that you need to be able to get to?ss1612 wrote:Thanks for the response. I am aware of post codes and admission criteria etc.

What sort of place do you want to live in? Do you prefer old or new housing? Do you want big gardens or to be close to a station? Does it matter whether you can walk to a supermarket? Or a swimming pool or a library?
You say location doesn't matter, all the matters is being close to the school, but school is just a small proportion of a family's life, it's odd to make such a major decision about moving house just for a school.

I am a parent of a TGS pupil. I gave you guidance above (apart from the postcodes).ss1612 wrote:Thanks for the response. I am aware of post codes and admission criteria etc.

There are lots of professional businesses making money out of advising on locations. I’ve actually used such (employer-paid) services. There is NO substitute for doing your own research based on the factors that matter to you. Streathammum’s questions are all valid and nobody can (or should) do that thinking for you.

And what if you move near to either of these schools and your Dd doesn’t get a place there? What are the fall back options? What other good schools are there?streathammum wrote:It sounds as though you don't know these areas at all. Don't you have any other factors that matter if you're thinking of moving? Re: HBS vs Tiffin Girls
Thanks a lot for all the responses. Since we are renting currently, flexible to move anywhere within London or nearby vicinity for either of the school option for the only child. Both schools are very good as visited during open evenings and familiar with nearby areas for both.
What we are looking at is - some specific opinion & experiences from parents from either of these 2 schools in terms of what they like, what they didn't like and good options to live (including basic facilities like supermarkets within a short drive) etc. and their suggestions in this situation.
Thanks again for some specific contextual responses & suggestions that will help us in our ongoing research and the next steps.

Re: HBS vs Tiffin Girls
We are planning to move only after reviewing the results and getting a confirmation. The process of moving takes months and hence evaluating options as part of planning. Please revert if any specific suggestions.
